Use Prosciutto to Learn the Taste of Umami
My homegrown maters are ripening. It’s time for B-L-T’s! I was out of bacon, but I had prosciutto, that Italian, salt-cured ham. Would it satisfy?
BINGO! There is an umami bombing when crisping prosciutto. The flavor is more intense than bacon, and it also becomes super crisp. I have a specialty microwave bacon rack that quickly cooks bacon—and now prosciutto—in minutes for this near-instant famous sandwich.



I use the highest power for 2 minutes, 20 seconds with three strips of prosciutto. I have a microwave bacon cooker with ridges that drains and crisps up the meat.
